General Questions
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a holistic healthcare system developed over thousands of years. It focuses on restoring balance to the body’s energy (Qi) and addressing the root cause of illness. Unlike Western medicine, which often targets symptoms, TCM uses natural therapies such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, cupping, and tuina to support the body’s self-healing process. Beyond treating illness, TCM places strong emphasis on prevention and long-term wellness through safe, nature-based solutions that are gentle yet effective on the body.
Yes. All our physicians are licensed by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board (TCMPB) in Singapore and have received extensive training in TCM, with a strong focus on women’s health.
Each of our physicians brings over 8 years of clinical experience, ensuring safe, effective, and personalised care rooted in both tradition and modern practice.
Yes, when guided by a licensed physician and have relevant qualification and experience. We tailor every treatment according to the stage of pregnancy or fertility journey, ensuring it is safe, gentle, and effective.
In most cases, yes. Many of our clients integrate TCM with Western treatments—for example, acupuncture can help improve the success rate of IVF, and herbal remedies may complement chronic disease management. However, it’s important to consult with a TCM physician before combining treatments. We recommend sharing your full medical history during your consultation to ensure safe and effective care.
If you are looking for natural, root-cause-based, and personalised treatment, TCM may be a good fit. Our physicians will assess your condition and recommend a tailored approach to see if TCM aligns with your needs.
Treatment Specific
During your first visit, our licensed TCM physician will conduct a thorough consultation to understand your health concerns, body constitution, and lifestyle. This includes pulse reading, tongue observation, and a detailed discussion of your symptoms. Based on the diagnosis, a personalised treatment plan will be recommended—which may include acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage, or dietary guidance. We’ll also answer any questions you have to ensure you feel informed and comfortable before starting treatment.
TCM is generally gentle. Occasionally, you may experience mild bruising (from cupping/acupuncture), temporary fatigue, or changes in bowel movement as your body adjusts. These usually resolve quickly.
In most cases, yes—you can continue your regular medications while receiving TCM treatments. However, it’s important to inform your TCM physician of any medications or supplements you’re taking. This allows us to avoid potential interactions and tailor your treatment safely and effectively. Our goal is to support your overall well-being, often complementing—not replacing—Western medical care.
In addition to general TCM concerns such as internal medicine, sports injuries, chronic disease management, and preventive care, we specialise in women’s health—particularly menstrual disorders, hormonal imbalance, fertility support, prenatal and postnatal care, and menopause recovery. If you have a specific concern, feel free to reach out. We’ll be happy to advise and guide you through your options.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of ultra-fine, sterile needles at specific points on the body to stimulate healing and restore balance. Most patients feel little to no pain—just a mild tingling sensation, gentle warmth (similar to an ant bite), or a feeling of heaviness that usually fades quickly.
At Lao Niang TCM, our herbal remedies are prescribed based on your individual body constitution and health needs. All herbs are sustainably sourced from trusted suppliers in Taiwan and carefully processed without the use of harmful chemicals or preservatives.
In addition to meeting Singapore’s HSA safety standards for heavy metals, our herbs undergo rigorous additional testing for pesticide residues and active ingredient concentration to ensure potency. We also trace the origin of each herb—down to the quality of the soil and water where it is grown—to ensure purity and safety.
Each personalised formula is prepared into convenient, ready-to-brew packs, making it easy to support your health with effective, natural remedies at home.
At Lao Niang TCM, we prescribe Chinese herbal medicine in the form of pharmaceutical-grade granules sourced from trusted suppliers in Taiwan. These herbs not only meet Singapore’s HSA standards but are also GMP-certified, recipients of Taiwan’s National Quality Award, and accredited with ISO, TAF, and UCS certifications. They are processed using modern, standardised methods to ensure safety, consistency, and potency—while preserving the therapeutic essence of traditional formulations.
Each prescription is personalised by our licensed TCM physicians to suit your individual condition. To take the herbs, simply dissolve the prescribed amount in warm water. Full dosage and instructions will be provided during your consultation.
Results vary depending on your condition and body constitution. Some people experience relief after just one session, while others may require a few more. Chronic conditions or fertility-related concerns often take weeks or even months of regular treatment to see sustained improvement.

After Care
After your session, rest well, drink warm water, and avoid strenuous activity or alcohol for at least one hour. If you feel sleepy or light-headed, it’s a normal sign that your body is adjusting—take it as a cue to rest and let the treatment continue working.
Store herbal granules or remedy packs in a cool, dry place—or in the fridge if advised. Take them as directed by your physician, usually once or twice daily, dissolved in warm water.
Yes, but please inform your physician. Certain adjustments may be made to your treatment depending on your condition.
You may feel lighter, more supported in posture, and experience better circulation. Some mild soreness or warmth is normal. We recommend keeping warm, resting, and staying hydrated to support your recovery.
